The Museum of the University of St Andrews opened in October 2008 and is associated with the University of St Andrews. The museum houses a selection of the University's historic and artistic collections, which comprise over 112,000 artefacts.

The Museum of the University of St Andrews (MUSA) displays to the public some of the treasures from the University's collection of over 112,000 artefacts.

The museum has four galleries, a 'Learning Loft' and a viewing terrace with panoramic views over St Andrews Bay.

St Andrews is home to Scotland’s oldest university and the third oldest in the English-speaking world. No visit to this lovely seaside town is complete without exploring the history of this ancient institution which has shared its streets for 600 years.

There is no admission charge and the building is fully accessible.

Accessibility

MUSA is laid out over four galleries on the ground floor. There is an educational space called the Learning Loft on the first floor and a Roof Terrace. There is also a gift shop next to the reception on the ground floor.

Car Parking

Two accessible parking spaces available in the car park at the front of the museum. Level access from car park to museum entrance.

Building accessibility

The MUSA reception, shop and all galleries are on the ground floor, with level access throughout. There is a lift to the first floor, with level access from the lift to the Learning Loft and Roof Terrace.

Toilets

Male and female toilets, as well as one unisex accessible toilet, are available next to the reception. There is also one unisex toilet on the first floor.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome at MUSA. Please let us know if your dog requires water to drink during your visit, we will be happy to provide this. 

Hearing loop

There is an induction loop at the reception desk and in the Learning Loft. A portable induction loop is also available to be used for events and tours. Please let us know in advance if you are attending an event and think this would be of use to you.

Large print text

Large print versions of all text in temporary exhibitions are available in the gallery. 

Seating

Bench seating is available in two of the galleries, as well as on the roof terrace and in the outside area to the front of the museum. Portable, folding stools are also available to take round the museum with you. these stools can be picked up from Gallery 1.

    On arrival found the accessible parking spaces available in the car park at the front of the museum. Level access from car park to museum entrance. Admission is free and the place is fully accessible. All galleries are on the ground floor, with level access throughout. There is a lift to the first floor, with level access from the lift which is quite helpful to disabled. Accessible toilets were available at the museum. Gift shop next to the reception on the ground floor which is accessible easily. Overall great museum and enjoyed the visit.
